Through fellowship by examination, eligible candidates are admitted as Associates of the College.
After having undergone all the required training and passing all the required examinations at the final stage, such Associates are conferred with the Fellowship of the College. Candidates who seek to earn Fellowship through this route may be qualified for one of three examinations.
The pre-specialist stage is the entry point into the clinical postgraduate training for physiotherapists. Applicants who wish to enter the programme at this stage should have 3 to 5 years of clinical practice experience post national youth service. Such applicants should be in good standing with the Nigeria Society of Physiotherapy (NSP), possess current practising license from the Medical Rehabilitation Therapists (Reg.) Board of Nigeria (MRTBN), a letter of attestation from the applicants Head of Department and two (2), referee letters from Physiotherapists who could be Fellows of the Postgraduate Physiotherapy College or physiotherapists of the rank of Associate Professor, Reader, Professor, Assistant Director, Deputy Director or Director.
The intermediate stage is the next stage after the Pre-Specialist stage. Applicants can progress from the pre-specialist stage to this stage after having passed the prescribed examinations at the pre-specialist stage. Applicants can enter directly into the intermediate stage directly if they had fulfilled the following criteria:
A candidate may be qualified for the Intermediate stage of the Fellowship by examination if they have 5-10 years of clinical practice experience post National youth Service, provided this candidate also have a postgraduate certification in physiotherapy or related area or an advance academic degree (i.e. postgraduate diploma, post-professional Masters or doctorate degree).
Such applicants should be in good standing with the Nigeria Society of Physiotherapy (NSP), possess current practicing license from the Medical Rehabilitation Therapists Board of Nigeria (MRTBN), a letter of attestation from the applicants head of department and referee letters from Physiotherapists who could be a Fellow of the Postgraduate Physiotherapy College or a physiotherapists of the rank of an Associate Professor, Reader, Professor, Assistant Director, Deputy Director or Director.
Applicants for the intermediate stage should also show evidence of having practiced extensively in their area of specialty.
The final stage of the fellowship by examination is through a progression from the intermediate stage. But at this period, applicants can apply directly for the final stage examination.
A candidate may be qualified for the final stage of the Fellowship by examination if they have 11 years or more of clinical practice experience post national youth Service, provided this candidate also have a postgraduate certification in physiotherapy or related area or an advance academic degree (i.e. postgraduate diploma, post-professional Masters or doctorate degree).
Such applicants should be in good standing with the Nigeria Society of Physiotherapy (NSP), possess current practising license from the Medical Rehabilitation Therapists (Reg.) Board of Nigeria (MRTBN), a letter of attestation from the applicants Head of Department and referee letters from Physiotherapists who could be Fellows of the Postgraduate Physiotherapy College or physiotherapists of the rank of Associate Professor, Reader, Professor, Assistant Director, Deputy Director or Director.

All candidates for fellowship by examination must complete an online application and make submissions for an intended examination. All applications and submissions are subject to review. Final determination of eligibility for a specific examination will be communicated to the applicant within 1-2 month of receiving the application.
